VOLUNTEER

Girls Rock Fort Worth has been made possible by the hard work of many dedicated volunteers since its very beginning. These dedicated individuals work year-round to make camp a fun and engaging experience. If you have the energy, drive, and enthusiasm to devote to GRFW, please consider getting involved with one of our exciting events or join our Core Team or Board of Directors. We need people with a wide range of skills for a variety of different tasks; we’re sure you’ll find something that suits your interests and abilities. While experience isn’t a requirement, previous knowledge is definitely an asset. We’re looking for individuals who are strongly self-motivated and task-oriented who can make a commitment to setting goals and seeing them through.

Board of Directors


The Board of Directors oversees the organization and acts as a central decision-making body. The function of the board is to ensure that the camp upholds its mission; to set a direction and long-term goals for the organization; to advocate for and represent the organization in order to promote its welfare; to help bring resources to the organization; and to monitor, oversee, and assure the financial, programming, ethical, legal, and governmental integrity of the organization.

Girls Rock Fort Worth is currently seeking additional individuals to join their year-round staff.  All positions are currently unpaid, although they provide an opportunity to do meaningful work for a nonprofit organization that matches your passions and values. Our core team is a great opportunity to network and build skills an incredible team of women. We are happy to work with your school to meet the requirements you need in order to receive credit, and we are able to provide job recommendations and letters.

Volunteer Information

Girls Rock Fort Worth is committed to providing important training and resources to all camp volunteers. Training will cover most camp logistics as well as give you an opportunity to learn more about the atmosphere of rock camp and its curriculum. Training is mandatory for all Camp Counselors, Band Coaches, and Instrument Instructors.

July 9 | The Hill School
The Mandatory Orientation for ALL Volunteers happens the day before camp as a way to reconnect with the people you’ll be working with as well as familiarize yourself with the camp location. The Pops & Rock Social is an open house for our campers & their families. Load In will also be happening during this time.

We have set aside a small amount of money to be given out as volunteer stipends to help defray some expenses and encourage participation. As you know, Girls Rock Fort Worth is a nonprofit organization with limited resources that relies heavily on individual donations and support from the community to operate. We ask that volunteers request a stipend only if not having one will directly affect their ability to participate in camp. This process is honor-based and confidential. You can request a stipend at the end of the Volunteer Application.

***Please note that absolutely no new stipend requests will be considered once camp has started.***

Stipend amount is up to $200 and based on the length of time you volunteer.

Stipend amounts: 

  • Full time volunteers ($200)
  • Half-day/Part Time volunteers ($75)
  • Workshop Facilitators ($30 per workshop)
  • Guest Performers ($50)
  • Photographers/Videographers ($200)
  • Recording Engineer ($200)
  • Roadies ($30)

Camp Roles

Workshop Presenter

Each of our workshops values developing life skills and self-esteem, as well as encouraging creativity, self-expression, and awareness. Examples of workshops that have been taught at other rock camps: History of Women in Rock, Self-Defense, Image & Identity, Songwriting, Teen Issues, Recording your Band, Prosecution, Engineering & Lighting, and Band T-Shirt Screen Printing. Must be available to teach 1 or 2 one-hour sessions on the day of your scheduled workshop. Open to women & gender expansive people.

Music specific Mentoring Positions

Instrument Instructor

(2 spots for each instrument) Mon-Thur mornings, 9:30 – Noon. Our campers possess a varying range of age and skill level, and many have never touched a musical instrument in their lives. We need instructors for guitar, bass, vocal, keyboards, and drums. Age groups will be split into different instruction times. You can choose to teach one or both. Open to women & gender expansive people.

Band Coach

(6-8 spots available) **Songwriting/Instrument knowledge needed**, Mon-Fri, 1:00-2:30 for ages 8-11yo and/or 2:30-4:30 for 12-17yo. Band coaches are assigned 1 or 2 bands to help prepare a song for the Showcase. You will help the campers during band selection on the first day and assist them each camp day in learning how to play as a group, both musically and interpersonally. It is possible to coach two bands, if you request it. Open to women & gender expansive people.

Non-Music Mentoring Positions

Camp Counselor

(8 spots available), Mon-Fri 8:30-5:15. You will serve as a mentor to your assigned band of campers, make sure they are where they need to be at all times & that their needs are met, assist the Band Coach as needed, and attend the debrief meeting at the end of each day. Open to women & gender expansive people.

Workshop Presenter

Part-time. Workshops are 1 – 1 1/2 hours long. Mornings (9:30-10:45 for 12-17yo, 10:45-Noon for 8-11yo) & Afternoon (1-2:30 for 12-17yo, 3:00-4:30 for 8-11yo). Each of our workshops values developing life skills and self-esteem, as well as encouraging creativity, self-expression, and awareness. Examples of workshops that have been taught at camp: History of Women in Music, Self-Defense, Image & Identity, Songwriting, Healthy Relationships, Recording your Band, and Band T-Shirt Screen Printing. Open to women & gender expansive people.

Panther Core Patrol

Part time or Full time. M-F. (At least 1 volunteer needed on campus at all times, can be split among several volunteers) The Panther Core Patrol is made up of social workers, therapists, counselors and folks in related careers. They are available to all camp staff and volunteers as someone to run tricky situations by, to report something worrisome you witnessed or overheard a camper doing or saying, and as a general support when you’re feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, confused, excited, etc. The Patrol is also there to help out with group/band dynamics, if something isn’t clicking, or to help resolve a conflict between campers if one arises. Open to women & gender expansive people.

Other Volunteer Positions

Front Desk/Receptionist

(1-2 spots available per day), Part-Time or Full-Time. The receptionist assists with camper registration, check-in and check-out of the campers every day, monitors visitors, coordinates in-camp communication, gives directions, answers questions, and sells showcase tickets and camp merchandise. There is a lot of flexibility with this position. Open to women & gender expansive people.

Roadie

(3-4 spots available) Part-Time or Full-Time. Help set-up, breakdown, and move equipment throughout the week. Responsibilities include: reconfiguring rooms for band practice every day, maintaining or fixing gear, assisting Lunch Bands with set-up and helping with load in/out. There is a lot of flexibility with this position. All applicants welcome.

Floaters/Runners

Any Days, Any Time. These volunteers are called upon for to help with any last minute needs, runs to stores, filling in for another volunteer, generally lending a hand as necessary. Floaters must have a car and a cell phone. There is a lot of flexibility with this position. All applicants welcome.

Kitchen Crew

Monday – Friday, 11:30am-1:30pm, can be split up by day. Kitchen helpers need to lift, move and serve lunch at camp. You set up lunch each day and assist with clean up. Kitchen team members will occasionally be asked to drive to pick up local lunch donations. Feeding people at camp is fun and makes everyone happy. Be a food fairy; it’s fun! All applicants welcome.

Camp Photographer

Part-time or Full-time. Take photos during camp, including band photos for the showcase (Band photos are usually done on Wednesday & must be uploaded quickly for use at the Showcase). All applicants welcome.

Camp Videographer/Editor

Part-time, Throughout camp, Band promos on Thursday or Friday. Get video during camp including band interviews for the showcase promos. Promo videos must be ready in time to use during the Saturday Showcase. The videos will be a brief introduction of the band that will be performing including interviews of the band. All applicants welcome.

Weekend Positions

Load In & Out Crew

No music experience necessary, Part-Time, Saturday July 8 & Sunday July 9 and Friday July 14. Help load in the gear and decorate the Camp Space before camp starts and load the gear out at the end of the week. Includes setting up/breaking down equipment and the space, hanging decorations, as well as cleaning and organizing the space so it looks exactly the way we received it! All applicants welcome.

Showcase Photographer

Part-time. Take photos during the showcase. All applicants welcome.

Showcase Videographer

Part- time. Capture video of the Showcase. All Applicants welcome.

Showcase Crew

(5 spots available). No musical experience necessary, Part-Time, Saturday, July 15th. Volunteers will work merch and info tables, sell tickets, fold programs, green room assistance, stagehands, and help to ensure that all aspects of the showcase concert run smoothly. Must be available for the day of the showcase. All applicants welcome.
